What is a fielded search?

You can perform a fielded search by using the fields on the Advanced Search page. These are:

Subject; Publication type; Category; Series; Personal author; Publisher; Session Year; Price; and ISBN/ISSN.

Why should I use a fielded search?

Using the additional fields enables you to:
  • Find documents by bibliographic details;
  • Restrict your search.

How do I perform a fielded search?

  • Click on Advanced Search in the search bar;
  • Enter your search terms into the fields you wish to search;
  • Click Submit.
Performing a fielded search using flexible search:
Flexible searches return all records that refer to the word(s) or phrases entered in the search field(s).
Example:
Searching for cm 4763 in the “Series” field returns all records containing either cm or 4763.

Performing a fielded search using Boolean operators:
Boolean searches return results that exactly match the word(s) or phrases entered in the field(s).
Example:
Searching for cm 47623 in the “Series” field returns only one result, as there is only one exact match for cm 4763.
